Initially, joining the Good Schools Alliance focused on enhancing my teaching and professional development. However, it transformed my journey, encompassing personal and professional growth.
The Alliance deepened my understanding of teaching, challenged my assumptions, and encouraged self-awareness, thoughtfulness, and intentionality in my interactions with students and colleagues.
A valuable aspect was learning critical thinking, strengthening decision-making and problem-solving, and encouraging experimentation and continuous learning.
As a teacher, I’ve become more reflective and confident, recognising that meaningful education involves building relationships, creating a safe environment, listening to students, and empowering them to think independently.
The Alliance’s journey contributed to my personal and professional growth, providing new perspectives, renewing my purpose, and inspiring continuous improvement.
I’m grateful to be part of this community, reminded that exceptional teaching is a continuous journey of learning, reflection, and growth. I look forward to applying these learnings and making a meaningful impact on my students.
The Good Schools Alliance had existed since 2012. But my active association with GSA started during the pandemic. The online platform for teachers and students came as a boon. Personally, I was thrilled to have an online platform to share my passion for reading with students and teachers. Not only did we read together, but we also provided one of the best training grounds for students to read, reflect, lead, and build relationships.
Students as young as 10 years old showed leadership traits, and guiding them to grow into interns and manage portals was indeed invigorating! As a teacher, I felt challenged to present reading and activities in a way that would keep participants engaged and return to the session every week.
As a teacher trainer, I have opportunities through The Teachers Academy to explore new situations and prepare sessions that suit the needs of trainers. Our unique method of training through reading has exposed me to thought-provoking material, enriching my own repertoire of pedagogical resources. Each of the books we choose to read ably supports our intention. I am grateful that, through the Saturday afternoon sessions, I can reach out to teachers in remote and rural areas who are keen to improve their practice and grow.
Anchoring the MAP - Music, Art and Poetry sessions on Thursdays was the most joyful time I have had with GSA. When passion meets duty, it is doubly rewarding.
As an individual, I have learnt a great lesson: unless I become tech-savvy, I will be redundant, and I have my friend, Sandeep Dutt, to thank for pushing me forward.
Making the sessions available on YouTube is benefiting thousands of people. I am certain that this is a unique venture that has spread the love of reading and books to many youngsters!
