Snehlata Prize

Promoting a Lifelong Love for Reading in Children

Join us in celebrating Smt. Snehlata from The English Book Depot's incredible 85-year journey! Her heartfelt leadership has inspired us for over 50 years, making a remarkable difference in countless lives. Let’s come together to honour her legacy and the incredible impact she continues to have on all of us!

Vision: To recognise, celebrate, and support individuals who have made extraordinary, lifelong contributions to fostering a love for reading among primary school children in India, thereby nurturing a generation of informed and imaginative citizens.

Mission: To spotlight unsung heroes, inspire others to dedicate themselves to children's literacy, strengthen the ecosystem for children's literature, and promote reading across India.

The Award is announced on July 24th every year, which marks Snehlata's birthday. The Ceremony is hosted at the ScooNews Global Ed-Fest in Jaipur in early August, and the Awardee is invited to Dehradun to savour the legacy and work of the great lady, perhaps the longest-serving woman in book retailing in India's history.

Who should aspire?

To honour an individual (not an organisation or a book) who has spent their entire life (or a significant, sustained period (e.g. 25+ years) working directly or indirectly to promote book reading among primary school children in India.
