Ecosphere is an award-winning social enterprise founded on a passion for the Himalayas and its people. We are a local organisation dedicated to sustainable development for the mountains and their communities. Our mission extends beyond the Himalayas to include the mindful and curious traveller. We are committed to sharing this rich natural and cultural heritage with others through a range of trips and experiences. We hope to allow everyone to explore and make a lasting impact in the region.
Since 2002, Ecosphere and its founding NGO MUSE have spearheaded community initiatives to transform lives in the Himalayas.
Ishita Khanna is the founder of Ecosphere and MUSE. Her experience working at the grassroots level and her passion for sustainability, travel and the mountains have been the driving force behind both organisations. She has been recognised as one of India's leading 50 social entrepreneurs. Her accolades include being voted an MTV Youth Icon, receiving the Real Heroes Award by Reliance & CNN-IBN and being honoured as a Pathfinder in the Indian Responsible Travel Awards. Additionally, she is an Ashoka Fellow, reflecting her commitment to social change and sustainability.
Our initiatives span a broad spectrum, balancing age-old mountain wisdom with future-oriented solutions. We aim to create synergy among economic empowerment, conservation, and sustainable development, tailored to Spiti's unique ecosystem and culture.
Arthur Foot Academy hosts health assessment and education camps; they welcomed a team of dedicated healthcare professionals from MUSE. More than 100 students received free oral check-ups, and this outreach covered more than five villages. Children learned the basics of dental care through engaging, interactive sessions, while teachers and parents from nearby communities participated in awareness workshops on hygiene and preventive health. It is more than a medical initiative — it is a step toward integrating healthcare, education, and community well-being under one roof.
